THE NEW CUBA STREET SUITE

With mentorship from John Psathas, I was privileged to be part of a group of local composers - including Lucien Johnson, Salina Fisher, Arjuna Oakes and Umar Zakaria - who each composed a five-minute work to be part of the New Cuba Street Suite for Classical on Cuba, July 2022. AN ORIGINAL SONG

I’m proud of this song. It was written in all of about 11 minutes, in a haze of sadness, while sitting on the end of my bed playing my guitar and singing at myself in the mirror. It’s raw and real, and was a showpiece at my EP Release Performance. It was recorded at The Armoury in Wellington, NZ with Troy Kelly. Listen to it here.

AN EVOLVING PURSUIT

As a musician who’s learned to play several instruments and studied Composition at tertiary level, I find the process of composing music compelling. Whether it’s a simple, but powerful song that I can perform on my guitar, or something with more texture and harmony, I love getting lost in the process.
